Tracy Burkhart (pictured)
Washington Township
Burkhart, in her 13th season as head softball coach at her alma mater, led the Minutemaids to the South Jersey Group IV championship. It was the fourth sectional title for Burkhart. She also guided the squad to the Group IV state title for the second time in her tenure, as they defeated Watchung Hills, 10-3, to cap a 30-2 season.

Mike Foley
Mount Laurel
Foley, coach of the Mount Laurel United Soccer Association’s U11 Fury team, led the 15 girls to a championship win in the Pocono Cup Memorial Day Tournament. Competing against 11 other U11 teams, the Fury came out with an impressive victory. The team went 3-0 through the tournament, scoring a total of 11 goals and only allowing one, then wrapped up the championship game with a win in penalty kicks.

Mike Dickson
Deptford
Dickson marked his eighth baseball season as head coach for Gloucester County College with the 300th win of his career, a 5-4 victory over Mercer County College. Dickson, who has the second most career wins in the history of GCC baseball, also won his second national championship with the program as the Roadrunners finished with a remarkable 49-3 record.

Susan Murphy
Medford
The Olympic Conference named Murphy, Shawnee High School’s athletic director, as the Athletic Director of the Year. Murphy has served as Shawnee’s athletic director for seven years and as the president of the Olympic Conference for the past two years. During those years, she has helped lead 27 athletic teams and more than 1,000 student athletes to success.

James Larusso
Moorestown
Moorestown Sleep Care U10 softball team coach LaRusso, along with his assistant coaches, led a team of 12 girls to three wins in the Sacred Heart Memorial Day Mayhem Tournament in May. Along with the wins, the coaches guided the girls into the runner-up position in the championship round.

Steve Hovart
Mount Laurel Hovart, head coach of the South Jersey Elite Baseball U-11 Orange team, led his squad to the championship in three tournaments this spring. The boys faced off against tough opposition in the March Madness Tournament in Westampton, Hamilton A’s Hitfest and the Diamond Nation Tournament in Flemington. He also led the Orange to second place at the Ripken Tournament in Maryland and helped them reach the semifinals at the Sports at the Beach Tournament in Delaware.

Rob Christ
Voorhees
In Christ’s sixth season coaching Eastern High School’s baseball team, he led the Vikings to their first sectional title. The team claimed the South Jersey Group IV championship with a 16-6 win over Shawnee. The Vikings went on to capture the program’s first state crown as well, capping a 29-4 season with an 8-1 win over Westfield in the state final.

Rob Hinson
Gloucester Township
Timber Creek High School’s football coach, Hinson, was selected as head coach for the North team at the annual Chesapeake Bowl all-star game. Hinson has led his Timber Creek team to two South Jersey titles. The all-star Chesapeake Bowl game is an invitation-only, all-senior event featuring students from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.

Kevin Merrill
Cinnaminson
Merrill’s Cinnaminson High School baseball team brought home the program’s first state championship with a thrilling 2-1 win over Mahwah in the Group II final. Earlier in the postseason, the Pirates claimed their first South Jersey title since the 1970s with an 8-1 victory over West Deptford.

Mike Viola
Cherry Hill
Viola led the Cherry Hill Soccer Club Wild Sharks to a second-place showing at the Memorial Day MSSL Explosion Tournament at the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in Lakehurst. The Wild Sharks posted a 2-1-1 record at the tournament, including an impressive 5-0 win that sent them to the championship game.

Jason Russo
Haddonfield
Russo and the Haddonfield High School girls track team took home their fourth straight sectional championship and 13th since 1983 as they claimed the South Jersey Group II title. The Bulldawgs also came painfully close to their second straight state crown as well, but they settled for second place, just three points behind their competition, River Dell.

Mark Jarvis
Marlton
Jarvis’ Cherokee High School girls track team made history in May, winning the program’s first sectional championship ever when it claimed the South Jersey Group IV crown. Jess Woodard shattered the sectional discus record with a throw of 168 feet and Courtney Foster took first in the 200 and third in the 100.
