Moorestown
Coaches Greer and Winkler led Moorestown Lacrosse Club’s Team 4-Black to an undefeated season with a record of 21-0. The fourth-grade athletes sealed their perfect season with a 5-0 victory over Clearview in the SJYLAX Festival competition on June 2.

Michael Orth, Jim Deiter, Tim Tracy
Marlton
The Marlton Chiefs boys’ basketball team, led by coach Orth and assistant coaches Deiter and Tracy, won the 7th grade SJBL Championship and finished the season with a 16-1 record. It is the second time coach Orth has led his team to the championship game.

Ted Melhois, Doug Wasko, Rich Kress
Mount Laurel
The Missouri State Bears, a third- and fourth-grade boys basketball team from Mount Laurel in the Joseph Kessler Memorial Basketball Association, recently achieved a perfect 10-0 record for the season and won the C Division Championship in late May, under the direction of coaches Melhois, Wasko and Kress.

Bill Alvaro
Washington Township
Head baseball coach Alvaro accepted the 2012 South Jersey Sportsmanship Award for his work with the Washington Township High School baseball program. The program was recognized by the New Jersey Baseball Umpires Association (NJBUA) at the Annual All-South Jersey Baseball banquet in early June. Alvaro just completed his 11th season as head of the program. The Minutemen had a 24-3 overall record and are Olympic Conference American Division and Grand Slam Classic champions this year.

Mike Motto, Walt Dzierzgowski, Glen Grosmick
Washington Township
The Washington Township seventh-grade boys’ lacrosse team went undefeated during the South Jersey Youth Lacrosse League season under coaches Motto, Dzierzgowski and Grosmick. They finished the season with a 12-0 record.

Kevin Murphy
Washington Township
Murphy, athletic director at Washington Township High School, was honored by the Olympic Conference with the Athletic Director of the Year award at a banquet on May 17. Murphy is responsible for one of the largest athletic programs in the state and oversees 31 varsity sports programs and 1,000 student athletes. Murphy has served in many high school administrative roles, and also coached collegiate basketball for 14 seasons.

Jim Baker, Tony Costello, Bill Burtis
Medford
Led by head coach Baker, and assistant coaches Costello and Burtis, the Shawnee High School boys’ tennis team was crowned South Jersey Group IV Champions after their 3-2 victory over Atlantic City.

Frank Albano
Marlton
Led by head coach Albano, Ann A. Mullen Middle School’s baseball team, the Jaguars, won their first-ever South Jersey Middle School Baseball League title in late May with a 6-3 victory over DeMasi Middle School. The team finished the season with an 11-3 record.

Jack Friedman and Donna Donato
Voorhees
Under the direction of Friedman and Donato, Eastern High School’s student InvenTeam will be traveling to Boston this month to present their one-of-a-kind invention at MIT’s EurekaFest. Only four schools were selected to compete in the competition and Eastern is the only one from the East Coast.

Jeff Holman
Haddonfield
Haddonfield Memorial High School boys’ varsity tennis team, led by head coach Holman, won the South Jersey Group II championship for the 10th time in a row. In addition to topping the sectional championship, Holman’s boys finished the season with a 31-2 record.

Gene Shulman
Medford
Shulman was inducted into the South Jersey Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in May. As a former assistant coach at Collingswood and Cherokee and a current assistant coach at Shawnee High School, Shulman notched 10 sectional championships in his career, along with numerous conference crowns. He also previously served as head football coach at Williamstown, and was president of the New Jersey Football Coaches Association.

Ray Horner and Recreation Coach Jerry Gallardo
Cherry Hill
The Cherry Hill Soccer Club awarded the first Paul Besancon Excellence in Coaching Awards to travel coach Horner and recreation coach Gallardo last month. The award is given to a person who demonstrates excellence in coaching on and off the field, and who inspires respect in his players, parents and opponents.
