Gabriel Donados and Cameron Kukral
Cherry Hill
Donados and Kukral placed first in the Thomas Jefferson Elementary’s “Fifth-Grade Science Stars” first-ever science fair. They created and presented a collaborative project in the Earth category.

Jacob Hogan
Mount Laurel
After a lengthy application process in which he needed to prove his prowess and enthusiasm for German, Lenape High School senior Hogan was selected to attend the 2012 American Association of Teachers of German (AATG) Senior Study Trip to Germany, where he'll study language, history and culture. Only a few select German students from across the country are chosen for the experience, which includes all expenses paid for a two-week international study intensive trip.

Esther Montgomery
Moorestown
This Moorestown Friends School senior had one of her photographs selected for an exhibit at Drexel University, as part of the 2011 Drexel University High School Photography Contest. More than 1,850 images were sent in from all over the country, but Montgomery's was one of only 140 images selected for the month-long gallery.

Lindsay O’Brien and Tim Vanak
Mount Laurel
Both of these Lenape High School seniors were selected to participate in the VSA Arts and Achievement Award Competition in New Brunswick. The competition, dedicated to recognizing the artistic potential in people with disabilities, required each student to submit a portfolio with five to eight works of art featuring three different mediums, followed by a still-life replication contest. They also had a full portfolio review in front of an arts jury.

Brianna Werosta and Emily Hulse
Medford
Werosta and Hulse both placed second in their age divisions at the South Jersey National Organization for Women (NOW) annual essay contest. Honored at a March 14 awards ceremony, both girls were given the task of responding to a question regarding Congress and the Paycheck Fairness Act.

Zachary Day
Moorestown
Moorestown Friends middle school student Day competed as an individual and placed first at the MATHCOUNTS Ocean chapter competition in March, held between middle schools from across the state in Somerset.

Francesco Caruso
Haddonfield
First-grader Caruso got in the spirit of “St. Baldrick’s Day” recently by shaving his head at a local Collingswood benefit. This student has already raised almost $2,000 in support of Haddonfield’s neon shoelace campaign, benefiting seventh-grader Jason Garstkiewicz, who is currently battling cancer.

Ayaz Mahmood, Elisabath Laviolette and Eddie Wu
Voorhees
Mahmood, Laviolette and Wu, in fifth-, fourth- and third-grade respectively, won the SPEAK poster contest at Kresson School. The theme this year was “Go for the Gold!” with the goal to raise awareness for people living with disabilities.

Aleksandra Brittain, Max Matex and Jazmyn Walloe
Cherry Hill
These three high school students took part in the KYW Newstudies program for aspiring broadcast journalists, spending six Saturdays at CBS TV and radio stations in Philadelphia, plus writing and research homework. Their final projects were radio news features scheduled to air on KYW Newsradio this month.

Marc Bagnato and Cassidy Iarussi
Marlton
Both juniors, Bagnato and Iarussi were semi-finalists among just 13 South Jersey students in the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurship’s Business Idea Competition. Bagnato submitted an idea entitled "The Professor,” a high-tech and cost-effective way to instruct students to play musical instruments. Iarussi’s idea, "The Deer Chaser," described a business idea that would save lives and protect wildlife from deer and auto accidents.

Aaron Bhatt, Lauren Wachspress and Ami Shah
Voorhees
The Eastern Key Club, led by Bhatt, returned from its District Convention during the first week of April and received several awards. Wachspress and Shah both received $1,000 N.J. District scholarships for their service to Key Club, and Bhatt received the Distinguished President Award.
