Mount Laurel
Their name may be a mouthful, but the title is easy enough to say: winners. Led by coaches Mulroy, Sciortino and Gallagher, Mount Laurel’s Inter-County Basketball League Junior B Atlantic Division Champions finished their season at the top, defeating Haddonfield on March 11 with a score of 38 to 24. Their season record was 11-1.
Steve Fasolo and Brian Saunders
Medford
Fasolo, head coach at Medford Memorial Middle School, led his middle school boys’ basketball team to win the elementary league Olympic Conference championship in a close game against Voorhees. Along with assistant coach Saunders, Fasolo saw his team beat defending champions Harrington Middle School in the semi-finals and finish the championship game with a score of 59-52.
Victoria Harrington Orzechowski
Marlton
The longtime girls’ basketball coach for both Paul VI and Cherokee high schools was inducted into the 2012 Hall of Fame Class by the South Jersey Coaches Association earlier this year. She represents the Olympic Conference division.
Bob Querubin
Haddonfield
Swimming and diving head coach Querubin had plenty to celebrate after eight of his swimmers placed at the NJSIAA Swim Meet of Champions in March. Will Manion placed first in the 100 back and second in the 200 meter, Ryan Richards placed third in the 500 freestyle, and the boys’ 400 freestyle relay team placed second.
Francine Seidlecki
Tabernacle
Seneca’s Seidlecki was recently inducted into the South Jersey Track and Field Coaches Association Hall of Fame. After a successful career at Shawnee, Francine transferred to Seneca High School during its inaugural school year in 2003. In eight seasons, Francine built the program and led it to a No. 1 ranking in South Jersey, winning five Conference Championships, two South Jersey Championships, four relay championships and two N.J. State Championships.
Charlotte Heenan
Moorestown
Heenan was just named Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools. The Moorestown girls’ golf coach led her young team to finish fourth in the state last year. It was the second consecutive year they qualified for state championships, and they finished the season 7-4.
Barry Harper
Delran
The Holy Cross basketball coach launched the school’s Special Olympics events three years ago and has been helping promote the cause ever since, coordinating the annual outreach program for students with disabilities. This year’s fourth annual Special Olympics, held at the high school in March, included 50 students from neighboring Bankbridge School. Harper has also led a recent Toys for Tots drive at the school.
Gerald Richardson, Jack Walsh, Keith Giberson and Nicholas Tyson
Medford
This coaching group led Lenape’s girls’ indoor track team to its second consecutive title as state relay champions, after an impressive show at the NJSIAA Group IV Indoor Relays. The team finished the 4X800 relay in 9:35.82.
Bill Mulvihill
Moorestown
Mulvihill, the 15-year girls’ head soccer coach responsible for 13 division titles, was inducted into the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame in March. His team made it to the finals of the Group 3 State Championship last year.
Ken D’Andrea
Marlton
D’Andrea’s Marlton recreation soccer’s U10 boys’ team, FC Blackhawks, won the league championship by winning five games in a row during the tournament, coming back from a three-game deficit. The boys took the U10 Boys In-Town Championship in early April, finishing the season 10-3.
Todd Jetter and Rob Leonard
Washington Township
The Pride Girls 9U travel soccer team, coached by Todd Jetter and Rob Leonard, finished the winter indoor season at the top of the South Jersey Futsal League division. The team, which travels throughout South Jersey to play, finished with a 6-2 record in the Spain division with wins over Voorhees Soccer Association, Rage Football Club and Vineland United.
Tom Love
Voorhees
Love, a longtime little league and high school baseball coach, passed away unexpectedly in April of last year. His memory lives on, however, in a new baseball field dedicated in his memory this month. Voorhees Mayor Michael Mignogna dedicated the field in his honor, recognizing Love as a “devoted husband, father and community volunteer” and the coach for the 2007 Gibbsboro American Legion baseball team that won the New Jersey State Championship.
