Orchard Valley Middle School eighth-graders Chavenson and Goss collaborated with the school’s PTO to organize a color run that was a bright success last spring. The student-led fundraiser raised over $1,000 for the Autism Speaks organization. The pair was congratulated by Principal Colleen Cancila and BOE member Dr. Roy Dawson.

ST. AUGUSTINE PREP & OUR LADY OF MERCY ACADEMY
Brother-sister schools St. Augustine Prep and Our Lady of Mercy Academy teamed up with three other high schools to participate in Project Green, an annual Interact Club service project on the beach in Atlantic City. The students worked in pairs to plant more than 10,000 dune grass plugs working under the guidance of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.

Twenty-three Burlington County police departments are competing to win a grant worth up to $5,000 from Aftermath for their K-9 units. Aftermath, the Illinois crime-scene cleanup and biohazard remediation company, will award a total of $15,000 to five departments nationwide that receive the most online votes.

The Mount Holly Police Department launched the Return Me Safe program that allows people to upload photographs and information of family members who have autism, Down syndrome, dementia, Alzheimer’s or other conditions to help police locate them if they go missing.

The Camden County Improvement Authority says that there are no plans as of yet to demolish Campbell’s Field, which has been empty since 2015. A spokesman says they are currently in confidential negotiations with a buyer.

Last month, Rowan University and Lockheed Martin were honored by the state of New Jersey for their partnership in creating a series of undergraduate and graduate programs that promote diverse education opportunities for state residents and help build industry-related skills. The inaugural Innovative Partnership Award was given to The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering and Lockheed Martin for their collaborative work that’s lasted over a decade. Washington Township High School accepted a certification as a New Jersey Future Ready School during the New Jersey School Boards Association Convention last month. The certification assists teachers in changing their instructional and educational practices while laterally preparing their students for success throughout the digital age.

POLICE BLOTTER

Runnemede officials X-rayed a child’s Halloween Candy after the 12-year-old allegedly found a sewing needle inside a Tootsie Roll. The candy is believed to have been picked up in the area between Smith Lane, Oakland Avenue and Crescent Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.

Gloucester County Christian School Officials are searching for the culprit who left two notes with racial slurs inside a black student’s locker. The incident is also being investigated by the Camden County East Branch of the NAACP as a possible hate crime.

A Pennsville Township man has been arrested in connection with four robberies throughout Gloucester and Camden counties that took place last month. The man confessed to buying a handgun and robbing businesses including a TD Bank in Bellmawr and a BB&T Bank in West Deptford.
