MEDFORD

A Spanish teacher at Lenape High School, Orphanos goes above and beyond in helping students explore other languages and cultures. Orphanos holds an annual World Language Olympics and helped bring a world language speaking lab to the school. As a reward for his hard work, the New Jersey Education Association gave Orphanos two tickets to a Yankees game and his name was announced on the Yankees Radio Network Spanish broadcast. —Stephen Huff

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP 

With a proven history of putting his students first, Jedwabny continues to shine as a positive influence at Orchard Valley Middle School. In addition to being named the school’s Teacher of the Year for the 2010-2011 school year, Jedwabny was nominated by his colleagues at the Gloucester County Professional Middle School Counselor Association (GCPMSCA) as the Gloucester County Counselor of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year.

CHERRY HILL

Mora, a 2017 Cherry Hill High School East graduate, won Huntington Learning Center’s College Scholarship Sweepstakes. Submitting her entry via text message, Mora was selected the winner of a $4,000 check to put toward her college tuition at the University of Pittsburgh this year. Owner Rich Bernstein says this is the first time the scholarship amount has increased from $500 to $4,000.

MULLICA HILL

LeConey, a 4-yearold who attends Friends School Mullica Hill, is donating backpacks to less fortunate students for the second year in a row. He tripled his number from last year and totaled 67 school bags filled with pencils, crayons, markers, scissors and glue. The backpacks were sent to Unforgotten Haven, a nonprofit organization that helps the less fortunate. LeConey hopes to donate over 100 backpacks next year and has inspired parents to get their own children involved in community service.

TABERNACLE

Seneca High School student-athletes aided Hurricane Harvey victims by donating $1,522 from their own pockets to the American Red Cross. Julie Smith, field hockey coach, and Brad Bauer, athletic director, brought the athletes together to give Houston moral support at a rally. Students made a banner that said, “You may be the Lone Star State, but you’re not alone,” which became an effective slogan to neighboring schools.

DiLella is known not only for her skills regarding her position as business manager, but for the multitude of hats she wears at Friends School Mullica Hill. She is a hard worker who dedicates her time and knowledge into the school to make sure all is done accordingly in the time frame she is given. Her positive attitude influences the faculty and students every day.

Muscelli was appointed to the role of assistant principal at Bunker Hill Middle School by the Washington Township Board of Education. A teacher with 13 years of experience and a recipient this past year of the Washington Township High School Teacher of the Year award, Muscelli will assist Principal Michael D’Ostilio with tasks such as overseeing student attendance and creating budgets.—Stephen Huff

MOORESTOWN

Mulvihill, the long-time girls soccer coach at Moorestown, earned his 300th career victory as the Quakers opened the 2017 season with a 2-0 win over Delran. Robin Panzarella scored both goals to help Mulvihill improve his career record to 300-88-22. A member of the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Mulvihill also coaches the softball team at Moorestown.

HADDONFIELD

A member of the Paul VI girls tennis team since her freshman year, Danovich has been a key part of the Eagles’ singles lineup the last three seasons. Last year as a junior, she played first singles and received the team’s Play Like a Champion Award. Danovich, who plans on attending college and pursuing a degree in occupational therapy, began her senior tennis season with a three-set victory as the Eagles defeated Timber Creek, 5-0.

MEDFORD

Lenape High School was the recepient of the 2017 Olympic Conference Sportsmanship Award. The award is decided on by votes from athletic directors within the conference and from several coaches of sports teams within the conference. The school will be receiving a banner from the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association to commemorate the award.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP

A mother of three students within the township and a manager at Turnersville’s Tony Soprano’s Pizzeria and Ristorante, Whitcraft made a different kind of delivery for students. Whitcraft donated three boxes worth of supplies such as crayons, pencils and notebooks, among other items, to Superintendent of Schools Joe Bollendorf. The supplies were gathered as part of the “Cars and Pizza” event hosted by the Endless Pleazures Car Club held at Soprano’s where the staff accepted donations of school supplies.

EVESHAM 

Evesham Police Department Patrolman Carlin was recently recognized as the department’s Officer of the Month for August. Having been on the force for the past 17 years, Carlin was recognized for his quick thinking when he noticed a vehicle pulled over on Route 73 where a teenage passenger was choking. Carlin performed the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the obstruction from the 13-year-old’s throat and allowing her to breathe again.

CHERRY HILL

After the devastation that affected Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas last month, the Cherry Hill Police Department teamed up with Road Runner Sports in Cherry Hill by donating shoes to those in need. Community Relations Officer Julia Downes brought shoes donated by the officers of the police department that will be sent to the Red Cross in Houston.
